About Medical Transcription

Medical Transcription is the process of transcribing (typing out) medical records while listening to recorded dictation of doctors. Medical Transcription is the fastest emerging field. Presently only around 2% of the total medical transcription work available is being done in India. It is expected that around 5,00,000 (five lac) jobs will be created in the next few years. No academic background whatsoever is required to become a Medical Transcription professional. Demand for Medical Transcription will continue as long as people need health care.

Medical transcription is a part of the healthcare industry which is itself recession-free. The demand for trained medical transcription professionals has been increasing while the number of available transcriptionists in USA has been decreasing.

One can start career as a Medical Transcriptionist and can go on to become a Proofreader or a Quality Analyst. Through "Leadership Development Programme", TransDyne identifies those with good leadership qualities and managerial skills and grooms them to become managers.


The salaries for an MT start from Rs. 8,000/- per month. MTs are also eligible for incentives linked to their monthly volumes. Good MTs can earn above Rs. 13,000/- per month including incentives, after about four months in production.

PRs draw an initial salary of Rs. 16,000/- per month. Take home salaries for good PRs can be around Rs. 20,000/- per month, including incentives, after four months of experience as a PR.

Senior professionals draw anywhere upwards of Rs.30,000/- per month.


Training for Medical Transcription includes American English, Medicine, transcription-related software, computer and internet skills etc. Training duration is for 2 months, six days a week, followed by two to four months of on-the-job training for practical orientation. Training expenses are borne by the company. TransDyne also provides stipends for eligible trainee MTs, proofreaders and editors.
